I remember reading a lot when I was a young girl. Books were my friends.
I grew up in a large family. My mom gave birth to twelve children. Only ten of us lived to become adults. Even though my siblings were always around, I felt alone. Maybe that was because I was the youngest for six years, until my youngest sister was born.
My mom was protective and we really did not play with the other children in my community. So, books were my friends. I recalled falling in love with the PippI Longstocking books.
As a teenager, I would order books. I do not think my mother ever paid for those books. I would read all kinds of books. I read Roots when I was in the 8th or 9th grade.
Summer was my favorite time of the year because I could sit under the huge shade tree and read.
Of course, the one book that has impacted my life the most is the bible. I love the rich, historical accounts of the kings and spiritual leaders of the Old Testament.
I just absolutely love to read. I recently read Belgravia by Julian Fellows. (I know the title should be underlined. Hope I can fix it. Forgive me if I misspelled his name.)
The pubic library is wonderful, but they keep charging me these fines because I am always late returning my books. I promise to do better in this new year.
